The Dashboard is your central hub for managing and monitoring your Zendesk configuration. It provides at-a-glance visibility into your connection status, configuration inventory, and recent sync activity.
What You See
Connection Header
At the top of the dashboard, you'll see your connection details:
- Connection name — with an avatar showing the name initials
-
Zendesk subdomain — e.g.,
yourcompany.zendesk.com -
Connection status badge
- Connected (green) — authentication is valid and working
- Failed (red) — there's an authentication problem that needs fixing
- Not tested (grey) — connection hasn't been verified yet
- Last sync time — shown in relative format (e.g., "5 minutes ago", "2 hours ago")
Configuration Type Rows
The main dashboard displays all 41 configuration types in a grouped, row-based layout matching Zendesk Admin Centre's structure. Types are organised into 7 collapsible groups: Objects & Rules, People, Channels, Account, Apps & Integrations, Guide, and AI.
Each group can be expanded or collapsed by clicking its header. Your open/closed preferences are remembered between sessions.
Each type row shows:
- Icon and name — visual identifier and label for the type
- Item count — how many of that object type exist in your Zendesk
- Enabled/disabled toggle — turn syncing on or off for individual types without leaving the dashboard
- Last synced — when this type was last pulled from Zendesk
- Sync button — sync a single type on demand without running a full sync
- Click to browse — each row links to a filterable list of items for that type
Per-Type Sync
You can sync individual types directly from the dashboard by clicking the sync button on any type row. This is useful when you only changed one type in Zendesk and want a quick update without syncing everything.
Sync All Per Group
Each group header includes a Sync All button that syncs every enabled type in that group sequentially, showing progress as each type completes.
Quick Actions
Below the instance summary, you'll find quick action buttons:
- Sync Now — pull the latest configuration from Zendesk
- Compare Versions — jump to the snapshot comparison view
- Search — open the global search
Global Search
Press ++cmd+k++ (Mac) / ++ctrl+k++ (Windows/Linux) from the dashboard (or anywhere in the app) to open the command palette. Search across all configuration types at once.
What-If Mode
When viewing a connection, you'll see a What-If Mode toggle in the navigation bar. Enable it to simulate configuration changes without affecting your live Zendesk.
- Toggle with the button or press ++cmd+shift+s++ / ++ctrl+shift+s++
- When active, the button turns amber and shows a badge with your pending change count

First-Time Experience
If you haven't synced a connection yet, the dashboard shows a guided first-sync experience instead of the standard grouped layout:
- Progress view — shows each configuration type being retrieved with real-time status
- Celebration screen — displays total items found with per-type badges
- Next steps — buttons to explore configuration or compare snapshots
Common Actions
Sync All Configurations
Click Sync Now to pull the latest configuration from Zendesk. This:
- Connects to your Zendesk instance
- Downloads all configuration types
- Saves a snapshot with a timestamp
- Updates the dashboard counts
When to sync:
- After making changes in Zendesk that you want to track
- Before comparing configurations (to ensure you have the latest)
- When setting up a new connection for the first time
View Configuration Details
Click any configuration type row to see:
- All objects of that type
- Details for each object (name, conditions, actions, etc.)
- Search and filter options
- Dependency information (what fields, groups, or tags each object uses)
Understanding Sync Versions
Each time you sync, Configly creates a snapshot with a timestamp version. This version groups all configuration types synced together.
- You can compare any two sync versions to see what changed
- Each version is a complete "point in time" snapshot of your Zendesk
- You can go back and view your configuration as it was weeks or months ago
